another sound film sighting...

on the super8 news group there is a report that there is sound film available from germany. $80.00 for 200ft. now i know they have been making this for a while. where are the 50ft carts? someone, somewhere is processing this film. they are making it. why are we denied? super8 sound has the industry to load those carts. i want my sound film!

When editing Super 8 sound film, you need to convert it to VHS or computer right?

Cause wouldn't it be hard to splice sound frames? Hence the sound and the matching image is 18 frames apart or something?

I found that out like the second before I was gonna splice some Super 8 film from my parents wedding, and I was like "Sh!t!!"
So now I don't know what to do. Heh,

Sound film editing can be tricky, but I think it's worth it. Original film projected with sound looks so damn good! (Pedro, double system sound is brilliant too!)

I posted this to some another post, but no-one said anything so,

What do you think, would Kodak make sound film if someone orders it from them? What would be the minimum order? 1000 cartridges?? How about Tri-X with sound!!!?
Anyone interested?

About those 200 ft rolls... does anybody know is that film brand new, or just some left overs from 1997?

One problem is the sound cartridge. Where do you get those?

Kodak is never going to make sound film again.
1000 feet is nothing. Some feature films use over a million feet of 35mm film stock.
They're not going to even think about re-tooling to make sound film again, unless you were ordering ten million feet, if even then.
I doubt they even still have the equipment to make the stuff...

no, you can either: make sure you place all cuts in silent parts, or other clever places, or: you can transfer the sound to another medium, edit it there and lay it back when finished. fullcoat or some other sprocket drive tape might be best to use to maintain sync, but it's certainly possible to edit on whatever and hope for the best. ;-)

Once upon a time, there was a device called a "Sound Displacement Recorder" that you ran your film through and it lifted the sound from the 18 frame advance position and moved it next to the picture. Then would edit using the picture for reference. Afterwards, you ran the film back through and it put the sound back at the 18 frame separation. I only saw one used once, a LONG time ago. Clever device, actually, if you need such a thing.

I believe they are buying fresh k40 silent film stock from kodak, putting a single mainstripe on it and packaging it for sale. The PROBLEM is you have to buy a 200ft reusable cartridge($3000 ? )( unless the price has gone down)from somebody ( perhaps the same company selling the film in Germany)
There may be some modification necessary to your camera so that 9volts is supplied to the cartridge to assist in transport of the film. Of course your camera must have been made to accept the original plastic 200 ft cartridge made by kodak( e.g. nizo chinon beulieu elmo)
Unless you have lots of$$$$$ or you are going to make some money on your film it may prove uneconomical to say the least.If anybody knows of anybody who has one of these cartridges i would appreciate hearing from them
